The rising share of Variable Renewable Energy Sources (VRES) in the electricity generation mix leads to new challenges for whole energy system. It especially raises technological issues handle variability and match load with supply at all times. This study introduces a methodology quantify relevance different storage technologies, based on time scale analysis. additionally provides an understanding how storages work combination variable intermittent generation. First, we set up simple model production, fluctuating over single time-scale. analysis figures merit curtailment. Second, simulate collaboration competition behavior various dual time-scale signal. Then, results are compared optimization system real consumption time-series. We eventually highlight trade-off mechanisms between efficiency its investment cost.
